This is an advanced-beginner class, and knowledge of basic salsa figures is strongly recommended. If you have taken our intro/beginner classes and want to improve your dancing, this class is appropriate for you. We will focus on foundational concepts and techniques for effectively leading and following in salsa partnerwork. BAILA Society will provide a thorough and authentic introduction to New York-style salsa, also called “mambo” and “salsa on 2”. You don’t have to come with a partner, as you will learn how to communicate with whomever you meet in salsa social settings. We will lay the foundation for salsa using fundamental footwork, turns, and lead/follow partnering techniques while sharing the rich cultural history behind each move. This is our most popular class, and now we are holding two sessions back-to-back, one at 12pm and another at 1:30pm. We will be teaching two levels simultaneously during each session: one for absolute beginners and another for those with some salsa experience looking to review and advance their skill level.
