Jessica Ho
Born and raised in Malaysia, Jessica has an eclectic background as a movement artist. She started her dance training in ballet and has won numerous top placing awards at Malaysia’s national level Classical Ballet Competition, including scholarships to perform internationally. She then pursued a Diploma in Dance at the National Arts Academy (Malaysia), training extensively in Asian traditional dance forms—Chinese, Malay, and Indian Bharata Natyam—as well as Western contemporary dance and fusions of these combinations. She became the first Chinese in the history of Asia’s Mak Yong genre (a UNESCO world heritage dance-drama) to hold the principal role. Jessica continued to pursue dance in America, graduating summa cum laude with a BFA in Dance at Texas Christian University (TCU) under the prestigious Nordan Fine Arts Scholarship, after which she relocated to New York City. Jessica joined BAILA Society in 2014, working with both BASo Alto and the Pro Team as one of the Principal dancers. As a gifted dancer of diverse caliber, Jessica also performs with Robin Becker Dance (contemporary dance company) as well as Funk Buddha/Bonsai Lab (a multidisciplinary dance company that fuses Eastern traditional dances with Urban Street Dance) as lead dancer. She has performed locally within the U.S. as well as all over the globe in countries such as England, Australia, Indonesia, China, and Vietnam.
